mailbox.org has built a credible and solid offering around security, confidentiality and data sovereignty. Their infrastructure, their certifications and their technical choices show a real desire to protect users against surveillance and commercial exploitation.
Why shamed: However, this promise remains incomplete as long as the payment remains traceable. By linking an account to a traditional financial identity, part of the anonymity is mechanically weakened, creating a point of vulnerability even outside of their technical system.
The integration of Monero (XMR) would make it possible to fill this inconsistency by extending protection to the act of payment itself. This would offer users true end-to-end anonymity, consistent with the values that mailbox.org already claims.
Adopting Monero would not only be a technical improvement, but a strong positioning: that of a service which fully assumes the protection of its users, without compromise.

A free open source disk encryption software for Windows, Mac OSX and Linux. The premier encryption solution for FDE and encrypted containers.
Why shamed: XMR donation option suddenly dropped (https://veracrypt.io/en/Donation.html) without explanation after accepting it for years. Though to be fair to the dev, he in particular has a high threat profile due to the nature of the Veracrypt software he develops. He mentioned in his forum a few months ago that he was "gone for a few months", and early in 2026 his Microsoft developer account was banned. Perhaps that played a part in it? Maybe he saw it was banned and may have thought XMR donations played a part in the decision, and removed XMR in his panic?
Because of the pressure a dev like this gets, and due to his contribution to the privacy/security community, I would propose a "soft" shaming, since it may not be his fault/he felt he was forced to remove XMR as an option.
ARCHIVED PROOF that XMR used to be accepted, (at least) as recently as late 2024, but I'm almost positive XMR was still supported when I did my usual mid-year 2025 donations: https://archive.is/jOo6p

Why shamed: StartMail should accept Monero (XMR) payments to align with their privacy-focused mission, as XMR provides untraceable, anonymous transactions that enhance user confidentiality beyond traditional methods like Bitcoin or credit cards.

Superior Privacy and Anonymity: XMR uses ring signatures, stealth addresses, and confidential transactions to fully obscure sender, receiver, and amount—ideal for a service like StartMail that already offers PGP encryption and no-tracking policies, unlike traceable fiat or BTC.
