Why shamed: Proton Mail/VPN has still not added native support for Monero, despite promises from David G Peterson to do so. In the implementation request thread, the issue was quietly "completed" in December of 2025, although instead of native support, they link to a third party reseller that is giving away proton services. Other email services, such as Tuta, use similar workarounds, however what makes this even more egregious is how Proton doesn't even mention Monero as a payment option on their official website.

Proton Mail also has a wallet which only has Bitcoin support. Calls to add Monero support have been denied, with claims Bitcoin's network effect is more important.

Lastly, Proton Wallet posted an April Fools meme mocking Monero, comparing it to other meme coins, further highlighting how tone deaf they are regarding financial privacy.
